Some people aren't sure exactly what the definition of glutathione is.

Some people think it's "just" another antioxidant and don't know very much about the specific roles it plays in protecting your body from everything harmful you come into contact.

Some other people believe it's some type of "miracle cure" and can radically change the lives of people using it.

This article will describe more of which one it is.

For starters - it's an antioxidant found in your body already.

However the main problem with glutathione is that your body naturally decreases its levels about 10-15% per year. This means by the time you're 60 it's already depleted by about 60% from when you were first born!

But in case you're looking for a more defined definition of glutathione, here is what I've found to be the best definition of glutathione - found in Dorland's Medical Dictionary for Health Consumers.

Glutathione Definition - A tripeptide of glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine, existing in reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSG) forms and functioning in various redox reactions: in the destruction of peroxides and free radicals, as a cofactor for enzymes, and in the detoxification of harmful compounds. It is also involved in the formation and maintenance of disulfide bonds in proteins and in transport of amino acids across cell membranes.

Interesting, right?

Of course not! Most people can hardly read that paragraph, let alone know what it means, so let me describe it in more detail.

Putting it in terms we can both understand - the definition of glutathione is basically that it's the king controller of all other antioxidants in your body.

In other words - when your glutathione levels deplete - you die.

This is pretty serious. You can actually think of glutathione like the engine of a car. When the engine of a car dies, the car fails to move or even start. It's the exact same situation that happens with glutathione.

So do you think your body is really performing optimally well after you hit the ages of 50,60 or 70 years old and it's depleted so much there's hardly any left?

Think of it this way and not having enough glutathione is a pretty scary thing indeed. Since it kills free radicals, the less glutathione in your body - the more free radicals are taking over your body and making you tired, weak and sick.

Stop worrying about what the definition of glutathione is, and start trying to figure out how to make yourself feel better.
