The Damage That Hurricane Floods Can Cause

By:

When you have flooding from a hurricane, the damages can be so severe that some people might never be able to recover from their losses. We have seen this happen after the hurricanes that hit in New Orleans and Texas as these two places are still trying to rebuild their homes and their lives. These storms did so much damage that some cities will never be the same again and a lot of the people that left the area will most likely not return. Not only had they lost their homes but also the companies that they might have worked for might not return either.

Not only did they lose their homes but they also lost several schools so now the ones that have returned have to go to the schools that ever left. This means that you might have students from three or even four different schools going into one. State officials are trying their level best to replace buildings lost to these storms, but some of these business owners might have been lost or killed, making the likelihood of these businesses opening again out of the question. As New Orleans always is having floods, most of these people didn't think to plan ahead or even leave and you know what the outcome was.

If you happen to live near water and the city or state officials tell you leave, it would be in your best interest to follow their advice and leave. Pack up a small bag to take with you and always have it close so that you can just grab it on the way out. Board up your windows, as this will keep the glass from being blown in the wrong direction, preventing more damage from happening. If the glass becomes broken from high winds or something knocked into this window, it will fall inside the home where you can easily clean it up when you are able to get back into the home. You will need to shut off the water from your pipes and also shut of the power and gas.

If the pipes would happen to be broken or damaged down from your home, you might have a better chance of your home staying intact. You will also need to tie down your outdoor furniture so as to keep it from flying into your windows or your neighbors. But sometimes in hurricanes, the winds are so high that no matter what you do, the damage is going to happen. In this case, all you can do is try your best to save yourself and your loved ones.
