The Certified Nurses Assistant Helps More Than Just The Patients On Their Shift

By:

The role of the certified nurse's assistant is vital to the functioning of many hospitals. Without the nurse's assistant, the nurses would have to do all of the work, which is an approach that many hospitals have attempted and none have succeeded. The Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) that work in the hospital setting work with a dozen or more patients yet they have an effect on many more than that.

*The Nurses Who Count On Them
*Patients Who Depend On Them For Quality Care
*Families Rest Better Knowing They Are There

Nurses Have More Time

Nurses depend on the CNAs to help them have the kind of time that they need to spend with each individual patient. Without the CNAs, the nurses could easily get caught up helping just one or two of the many patients that they have to see during the course of a shift. There are often patients who are very needy and the nurse who has an abundance of medications and procedure to see to simply does not have the time to do the many smaller things for patients that are just as important, like hygiene and help with eating or moving around.

Patient Care

Patients have come to depend on CNAs who not only do things for the patient but also provide someone to talk to and to lend a sympathetic ear. Often, a patient who needs an answer to a question can depend on the CNAs to ask the busy nurse for them and entrust them with delicate questions and information that could be useful to the nurse for the patient's care. Even a simple act like checking in with the patient before the end of their shift can brighten the patient's day knowing that the CNAs care about them enough to do so.

Families Assured

It is not just the patients and the nurses who benefit from the presence of the CNA. The patient's families can also rest assured knowing that their family member is being looked after by the watchful eye of the ever-present and concerned certified nurse's assistant. Just knowing that the CNAs have built a rapport with the patient and seeing the CNA interact with their sick or injured loved one is a comfort that cannot be measured. Family members have even presented gifts to CNAs even though most of them would not hear of it. The CNA is a much needed, and under appreciated part of the hospital team that cannot be denied.
