The Caffeine-free Specialty Coffee Dont Leave It Out!

By: sturat.mitchel

Coffee is famously known for its caffeine content which is a natural stimulant which increases a persons blood pressure and heightens the senses, allowing the brain & body to withstand lethargy. There is even medical evidence that coffee reduces the risk of Alzheimers disease (degeneration of brain ability due to aging). It comes as no surprise that many people adore the drink due to the hectic lifestyles these days. Coffee lovers in particular believe that waking up in the morning must begin with a perfect cup of the concoction. The rich sensation, pleasant aroma, smooth texture, and tangy aftertaste that fill the human senses make it a wonderfully addictive experience and an indispensable daily routine. Unfortunately not everyone can enjoy premium coffee because they do not tolerate caffeine. To cater for this group of people so that they are not left out of the loop, decaf coffees have been created by coffee manufacturers. Decaf Gourmet Coffee is a coffee drink with at most 3% caffeine.
It is important to not impair the flavor of the coffee in the decaffeination process. There are primarily 2 widely-practiced methods of decaffeination. The first is method employs chemical treatment to soak and wash the beans to get rid of caffeine before they are dried and roasted. This decaf technique removes most of the caffeine after roasting and preserves most of the original flavor. However it is not preferred because consumers dislike the perception of drinking a chemically treated beverage. Due to this, the second method which is free from chemical usage is more marketable. In the second method, coffee beans are soaked in charcoal activated water and a natural substance to remove its caffeine, followed by drying and roasting. The disadvantage of the second method is that some essential oils are lost hence significantly reducing its original taste. The leftover caffeine from these processes are usually kept and sold to other beverage companies to be added to their novelty drinks.
As described in the decaf process above, a portion of the original flavor is removed no matter which technique is used. Therefore it is self-explanatory that the best Decaf Gourmet Coffees are created using high quality Arabica coffee beans because their aroma is naturally stronger than robust coffee beans. This stronger aroma is attributed to its lower moisture content since these beans are indigenous in hot and dry regions. Interestingly, most cuppers (coffee connoisseurs) notice a unique taste not usually associated with regular coffee which brings a refreshing coffee experience that not to be missed. It is also a perfect way to enjoy a cup of coffee without its stimulating factors.
The less known fact about Decaf Gourmet Coffee is that they are high in acidity which can lead to several undesirable medical conditions such as decreased bone density, stomach discomfort, sleeplessness, and increased risk of heart attacks. Therefore care should be taken to ensure it is taken in moderation.
