The Cadillac STS hit the market for the first time in the year 2005 and Cadillac is still continuing its production till present. The vehicle is produced by the Cadillac, the luxury auto-division of General Motors. The STS vehicle falls under the category of mid-sized luxury cars, and proves to be a formidable opponent to other vehicles in it's class.

The vehicle has its assembly plant located at Lansing, Michigan, United States of America and at Shanghai, China. The vehicle was released as a predecessor to the Cadillac Seville. The vehicle is produced based on the 4-door sedan body structure and on the platform of General Motors Sigma platform. The vehicle offers three types of engines namely the 3.6 liter LY7 V6, 4.6 liter Northstar LH2 V8 and 4.4 liter V8 models.

The vehicle provides 5-speed and 6-speed automatic transmissions. The vehicle has the wheel base of 2960 mm. The length, width and the height of the vehicle are 4986 mm, 1844 mm and 1463 mm respectively. The fuel capacity of the tank is 17 US gallons and is related to the models CTS and SRX. The Seville Luxury Sedan is a stretched version of STS.

The vehicle name STS stands for Seville Touring Sedan. The STS is the Cadillac's highest priced sedan. The STS is the only flagship model from the Cadillac marketed world wide. The STS vehicle is positioned between the DTS and mid size CTS in the countries of Canada and United States and is priced above the DTS vehicle.

As far as the safety of the vehicle is concerned, the STS is rated an overall good score in the crash test conducted by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It is rated as acceptable in side impact test.

The front wheel drive Cadillac Seville was dropped in the year 2004, replaced by the new STS model designed provided rear wheel drive. The all-wheel drive is also provided as an option. The vehicle is assembled at the General Motor's Grand River plant along with the Cadillac SRX crossover SUV and the Cadillac CTS sedan.

The STS-V series was introduced in the year 2006 at the Detroit Auto Show held in the year 2005. The STS-V vehicle features a new super charged 4.4 liter Northstar V8 along with the up grades. This Northstar V8 engine is certified by the SAE authority to produce 350 kilo watts of power and 439 lb ft of torque.
