A few weeds are ok, but when they take a yard over they quickly become an eyesore. Not to mention frustrating to the homeowner themselves, but also the complaints from the neighbors do not help anything. Weed control is a bit of a learning process for most homeowners and can be frustrating to put it mildly. There are however a few steps that make fighting weeds a little easier. Now that lush lawn, that is the envy of the neighborhood can be achieved instead of letters threatening to hire a professional mower, if the weeds are not tamed!
Identification Is The Key
The first step to weed control is identifying the types of weeds in the yard. Not all poison or other products work the same on different types of plants. In order to identify the types of weeds taking over your yard, consult a plant guide or take a look on the internet for typical weeds in your area. Once identified it is easy to find a good product that will work on that particular type of plant. Read the instructions on the weed killer before applying, as it may need to be mixed, sprayed on in a particular temperature or the need for watering in after application.
Forget Poison & Pull Them
Certain types of weeds are better to pull by hand. Most can be poisoned, however some like sticker weed or grass burs are best pulled by hand and discarded of. The longer these types of weeds are in the yard, the more that the homeowner will have to battle. Be sure to wear gloves, as they can smart a bit as they come out of the ground with all those sticker edges! Most of all, weed control is about staying on top of the problem, never let it get ahead of you!
