The Best Of Exmoor's Wild Beauty And Stunning Scenery

The majority of the national park of Exmoor is in Somerset with the final third the north of Devon and is famous for the amazing unique landscape with heather moorland,sheltered valley's and stony coastlands. There are several pretty villages with some of notable fame such as Bossington, Selworthy and Allerford. The sea front villages are similarly stunning such as Porlock which is a well known picturesque fishing village that has inspired many painters and Lynton and Lynmouth famous for the Victorian railway.

There are several very beautiful areas to view across Exmoor's wild landscape, from the long-standing Dunster Castle, built on a hill top, the prospects are truly something to behold. Dunkery Beacon is at the summit of the Exmoor National Park and also shows the best landscape views with a trig point and a toposcope on its summit. North facing views include the Mendips and the Brecon Beacons and to the south Bodmin and Dartmoor although this depends on the weather.

Withypool is another small village to visit as there is a stone circle nearby comprising of forty short stones. There is also the Tarr steps to see, and ancient bridge which crosses the river Barle. The largest lake in Exmoor called Wimbleball Lake is full of wildlife and supply you with many water based activities.

Devons unrivalled splendour has moved many writers and painters over the last few centuries including Lorna Doone by R.D. Blackmore which is focused in Oare a small village, it is called Doone Country in the book it is evident the effect Exmoor has had upon the scenery.

The fragile eco systems homed in Exmoors national park is can be a big reason to visit, as well as the world famous ponies there are badgers, bats and red deer all regularly seen. The park homes over 80 species of birds both native and some migrant to spot amongst the stunning woodland environment, which is especially beautiful during springtime as it is carpeted in bluebells.
