The Best Method To Use When Trying To Quit Smoking

By:

There are a lot of methods that people use to attempt to quit smoking, but some of them will not work on 95% of the population. If you are really interested in quitting smoking, there are a few methods that do work, although unless you know ahead of time, you'll end up trying a few that really don't.

The first thing that doesn't work very well is nicotine replacement therapies. They're just not very good at what they claim they can do, which is easily help you step down from one nicotine level to another, lower nicotine level until it reaches zero. The majority of the reason that this does not work is because the real habit doesn't stem from the nicotine, but the emotional attachment to smoking. Yes, it is very likely that you have an emotional attachment to cigarettes even though you do not realize it. When you get stressed, isn't the first thing you want a cigarette? This is an emotional response, not so much a physical one because while the nicotine is addictive itself, it is out of your system within a week or a week and a half to two weeks at the most. This is why people who haven't been smoking for a month to two months and then go back; it's not because they're still addicted to nicotine.

The next thing that typically doesn't work is quitting cold turkey. Even though some people have the will power to use this method and stop smoking cigarettes all at one time, most people don't have the will to overcome the nicotine addiction by itself and then address the act of smoking afterward. Nicotine is extremely addictive and being able to get through the nicotine withdrawals is very difficult.

A combination of weaning yourself off of the nicotine and slowly ceasing the hand to mouth fixation is what is needed for an attempt to quit smoking to have potential.

One of the best ways to accomplish this is to slowly eliminate areas of your life where you (or your family) will allow you to smoke. At first, stop smoking in your car. Having the interior cleaned and removing the smoke smell will help with this because being able to smell the smoke will entice you to light up. Next, eliminate smoking in another area, such as a certain room of your house. Then, make smoking off limits in another room.

The other way to stop smoking that can work well is only allowing yourself a certain number of cigarettes per day and slowly reduce that number over a period of time until you reach zero.
