The Behavior Of Habits

The Behavior Of Habits

I'm sure you all have dreams, goals and a vision of what success looks like for you. The problem is that we all have only so much time to accomplish all that is needed to arrive at where we want to be. Everyone has the same 24 hours. So, what shall we do first? There is a long list from which to choose to begin to achieve our goals and get into a productivity groove.

There are certain things that if done consistently, will greatly contribute to your success. Things done consistently, repetitively, without much thought, are called habits. Some of these things can be difficult, but the key is to figure out what they will be for you. The place to start is to first decide what your #1 priority and focus are at this time. What is it that you most would like to achieve? If you're like me you have plenty of ideas and a wide array of things to focus on, but just for now choose only one. In other words, choose one goal, and decide where you need to start to meet this goal.

OK, now that you've narrowed your focus onto one goal that is measureable and doable, the next step is to make a brain drain list of all the possible action habits that will help bring that focus to fruition. If for example you wanted to build your prospect list, you might write things like; network more, join Twitter, increase friend count on Facebook, article marketing, speaking, cross promote with a friend, hold a workshop, write a free report to give away with my contact information. I think you get the idea.

From here take a look at your list and choose 3 things you will work on daily for about 30 days. Then each day you'll block out time to work on or implement each one of these tasks that you have outlined. You'll want to track your progress and results, so know where it is you are starting from and where you want to be in 30 days. Make yourself a scorecard or checklist and every day for 30 days make sure you are following your plan.

Often, what you need most to change about your habits is to stop long enough to really hone in on one thing that you'd like to accomplish and then keep that focus at the front of your mind until completion!
