In the heavy metal community there is a subgenre of music called Viking Metal. Folk, black and death are often styles you will find within Viking metal news. Viking metal is a experimental and new type of heavy metal. The style of Viking metal often has an epic sound, keyboards and fast beats. Viking metal writers use fantasy and mythology themes within their music. Heavy metal has also had a satanic feel about them, but Viking metal has nothing to do with Satanism. People will get this idea because of the hateful and melodies feel of the songs. There are no songs that talk about the devil of Satan.

The strongest areas for Viking metal are in Scandinavian countries like Finland and Norway. The harp, accordion and panflute are some of the most influenced instruments used in Viking metal. Roars and deep growls are the prominent vocal choice for Viking metal. Viking music has a very dark and gray feel in their music, keep the metal atmosphere. The dark and evil sounds of Viking metal was influenced by Black metal roots and techniques.

Most Viking metal reflects on battles of warfare. The of the earliest signs of Viking metal came from Led Zeppelin. Some Led Zeppelin songs included some Vikings. Even Black Sabbath used choir vocals to give a Viking feel to their music. The first heavy metal band that wrote and combined all elements of Viking metal into a song was Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force. In 1985 they also had a song called "I am a Viking." The first band to make a full album and become one of the first Viking heavy metal bands was called Bathory. Later Bathory release an album called "Blood Fire Death" in 1988. This was a Viking metal album with some Black metal elements. Bathory continued to make Viking metal, but started to incorporate Folk metal instruments. This is probably one of Bathory's strongest abums recorded.

The style of Viking metal is often a reference for pagan culture. Viking metal bands usually are formed in northern Europe. Countries in northern Europe have most Viking metal bands. Most Viking metal bands have some sort of Black metal experience. Music is often epic, dramatic and mythological. Listening to Viking metal will give you a full dose of Viking Traditional Folk metal. Bands often seemed in English language which gives them a wider audience in the European area.

With it being not very popular, bands like Bathory and Amon Amarth still produce great albums. The fan base in Viking metal is strong for these bands. The metal community will slowly recognize the talent in Viking metal and will help it grow to become more popular.
