For instance, the Amsterdam Stock Exchange has the singular distinction of being the world s first stock exchange. Amsterdam was considered the wealthiest city of the entire world in the 17th century and many of its stately homes, many of which are now museums, certainly belie this point in history.

Amsterdam is still considered a very important part of the worldwide trading network. In the 1940 s many Dutch Jews were deported to the many Nazi concentration camps, and among many well-recognized names of those was Anne Frank. Amsterdam has a large museum located at the Anne Frank house, where her voluminous writings are being put into permanent display.

The Amsterdam highly unique architecture is best seen aboard one of the many tourist boats that move along the canals. After all their architecture runs from medieval to ultra modern. You will also see an abundance of very novel houseboats. Sitting at cafes terraces is also known as a national pastime in Amsterdam, thus most tourists become highly adept at people watching from these many cafes.

There is so very much to see in Amsterdam, that many people find that rather than staying in expensive hotels, they are much better off staying in holiday accommodations such as rentals of holiday apartments.
