The Art Of Palming For Better Vision

The Art Of Palming For Better Vision

"The fact is that, except in rare cases, man is not a reasoning being. He is dominated by authority, and when the facts are not in accord with the view imposed by authority, so much the worse for the facts. They may, and indeed must, win in the long run: but in the meantime the world gropes needlessly in darkness and endures much suffering that might have been avoided"
-Dr. William Bates

When we hear of something that is out of the "accepted" norm it is common for us to resist, discount and deny. This is sometimes to the detriment of our greater good. I'm not suggesting that everything should be automatically accepted, however, I am adamantly insisting that just because something is thought to be absolute, does not mean it should never again be questioned. I am now questioning the "fact" that we are all doomed to have degrading eyesight and that the only hope is surgery or being chained to wearing glasses forever.

Dr William Bates was a questioning radical of his time. Like many pioneers in their various fields who have been denounced by the "experts" of their day for upsetting the status quo, he was vilified, discounted, and ridiculed. Status quo is a safe haven for many, but never safe forever, because if there is any measure of truth to an idea or discovery, it will eventually, like cream, rise to the top. Can vision problems be help or cured, by such simple techniques as relaxation and eye exercises? It is a worthy question.

The following eye exercise is harmless, and possibly very helpful. Why not try it?

Your eyes are in constant motion, even when you are sleeping. Palming is a way to help the eyes relax naturally. It isn't possible to completely stop the eyes from moving as they must move to lubricate, however you can, through relaxation, greatly slow down their motion.

To relax your eyes, you must also relax your mind. Palming helps relax the mind and the eyes at the same time. Give yourself at least 15 minutes, but take longer if you need to.

First, rub your hands together to get them nice and warm. Next, place one palm over each eye. Be sure to cup the palms so they are never directly touching the eyes or putting pressure on the eyelids. Resting your elbows on a table allows you to relax comfortably.

With your eyes closed beneath your palms, feel the muscles in your body start to relax. Start from the top of your head and slowly move down to your toes, feeling each muscle in between relax. The more relaxed you are, the darker the blackness your eyes see will be. At first, you may see a grayish color but as you relax that gray will become a darker and darker shade of black. The deeper the blackness, the more relaxed your eyes will be.

Seek to clear your mind of distracting thoughts, visualize pleasant scenes, or whatever makes you feel calm and relaxed. Try to stay in this relaxed state for at least 15 minutes. Relaxation such as this, benefits the whole body and only gets easier with repetition.

When you open your eyes again, you will notice things will be more focused. Colors, shapes, and lines will be more defined and your overall vision will be clearer. I must say, I was startled to find this to be true!
