The Arizona Diamondbacks Look To Turn It Around In 2010

2009 was a season that the Arizona Diamondbacks would like to forget. The fact of the matter is that they are doing everything that they can to make sure a season like that does not happen again. Fans can once again flock to the ballpark with hope as they have been extremely aggressive and are looking for big results in 2010.

Eric Byrnes was once a player that Arizona thought they could build a franchise around. 2008 left them hoping that it was just an off year, but 2009 proved that he was headed in the wrong direction. His horrible average and lack of overall production were cut loose to make room for players that will hopefully bring more to the plate.

When a team is looking to turn things around, they need to steal hot young talent from successful clubs and that is exactly what the Arizona Diamondbacks did. Adam LaRoche has been putting up some decent numbers in Atlanta in a very tough division and in some tough ballparks. He should have an incredible year.

While the added offense will be nice, make no mistake that Webb will hold the season in his hands. This team was devastated by his injury in 2009 and is looking forward to once again having him take the ball in the rotation. Every pitcher found themselves in a different role and having their Ace back should make everything better.

Assuming Webb is 100% at the start of the season, Arizona will have an incredible 1-2 punch with Danny Haren following him up. He was notched 30 wins combined over the last two season and has struck out 429 players in that same span. Between these two pitchers alone, Arizona could get close to their win total for the entire 2009 season.

The Arizona bullpen should be solid as they are led by closer Chad Qualls. He slid into his new role nicely and converted 24 of 29 saves with a very respectable 3.63 ERA. With a year under his belt as the full time closer, we can expect a lower ERA and with Webb, quite a few more saves. You fantasy leaguers will want to snatch him up.

The fact that Webb is coming back is enough of a reason for fans to order their tickets. Arizona is staring down the throat of a division championship and possibly a NL crown with this pitching staff. They need to stay healthy, but if they do the West is in for a heap of trouble.
