Depending on a persons age, the kind of treatment the skin needs varies. A teenager for instance may be afflicted more by acne due to increased hormone activity and similarly an elderly persons skin may require heavier moisturizing than younger skin.
The basic steps to take care of a persons skin are as follows:
- Cleanse
- Exfoliate
- Moisturize
- Apply sunscreen
The advantage of Ayurveda Creams over commercial creams is that they contain no artificial chemicals and they are blended with a variety of herbs and plant extracts, making it a very popular option to treat various skin problems. Ayurveda Creams are formulated using the knowledge that Ayurveda has gathered over thousands of years.
It should be noted that Ayurveda places importance on the fact that to achieve complete and long lasting beauty, skincare has to be done in a balanced manner. Not only do we have to take care of out skin from the outside but it has to be nurtured from the inside as well.
According to Ayurveda, the universe is made up of 5 fundamental elements namely Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and Space. These elements manifest themselves in the human body as energies or biological humors known as doshas. These are Vatha, Pitta and Kapha.
Further on, Ayurveda identifies three skin types, which are categorized according to the doshas which are Vatha skin, Pitta skin and Kapha skin.
Vatha Skin
Vatha dosha consists of space and air. This type of skin is dry and thin as a result of which it is prone to premature wrinkles. Vata skin should be moisturized regularly and olive oil, almond oil or ghee should be added to ones food to make sure that the skin is being moisturized from within as well.
Ayurveda Creams that contain Ashwagandha, Shea Butter and Evening Primrose oil are very beneficial for the Vatha type skin.
Pitta Skin
Pitta dosha consists of fire and water. This type of skin is a relatively balanced one; however it is prone to acne, rashes and breakouts. Pitta skin is very sensitive against the sun and food which is excessively spicy and hot. Therefore this kind of nutrition should be avoided.
Ayurveda Creams that contain Licorice, Ylang-Ylang and Sandalwood are excellent for soothing and cooling Pitta skin.
Kapha Skin
Kapha dosha is a combination of water and earth. This type of skin is oily and has a tendency to have problems such as blackheads, breakouts and fungal infections. This kind of skin should be cleansed frequently and creams which are very oily and greasy should be avoided. Kapha skin types benefit e.g. from fresh ginger with lime-juice as it improves the digestive system.
