The Advantages Of Fiber Optic Cables

By:

Fiber-optic cables are used in a wide variety of industries. They can be easily found in either domestic households, offices or manufacturing industries. Before the coming of fiber-optic cables, our communication devices were still using metal wire made of copper. After they have emerged in the market, they have become a tight rival of copper wires, and eventually replaced the usage of the copper ones.
Do you know what makes fiber-optic cables more advantageous than copper wires?
The first factor which contributes greatly to its popularity is the cost. As compared to copper wires, fiber-optic cables are far cheaper and this makes our household gadgets cheaper. Cable television and internet devices which utilize fiber-optic cables are far cheaper than those which do not.
Secondly, fiber-optic cables can carry more data due to their larger capacity. Because fiber-optics are far thinner than copper wires, we can bundle more optical fibers into each cable and more phone lines can go through the same external cable coating and this provides for more channels to be made transmissible into your cable TV.
The third reason which makes fiber optics used more widely is because it allows for a significantly less signal degradation. This is because in the structure of the fiber-optic cables, there is a layer called the cladding which reflects back the light rays which have been refracted from the core. Thus, this allows for less diverged light transmission.
In addition to its low signal degradation signal, fiber-optic cables use lower power. This is because with lower degradation, we do not need to use electrical transmitters of high-voltage and this is also why we can have a cheaper fiber-optical gadget than those which use copper wires.
When we do not use electrical transmitters within fiber-optic cables, another advantage is brought in. Fiber-optic cables are inflammable because fire conductivity is relatively lower in fiber optics than copper. Thus, even if our gadgets are on fire, we do not have to fear because they will never burn.
Finally, they are lighter than copper wires. Other than that, less space in the ground is taken up.
