The Advantages Of Cloud Hosting Over Traditional Shared Website Hosting

By:

Everyone is interested in cloud hosting at this moment in time. Traditionally we are used to standard shared web hosting. The way normal web hosting works is a web host will have multiple dedicated servers. On each dedicated server, a shared hosting account is kept. Sometimes hosts split databases and email off onto other servers. In essence, your website is hosted on one physical piece of hardware. Thus, if that one dedicated server goes wrong, your website will go offline. This is where cloud software comes in, and this is why it is so popular. Cloud panels have numbers on its side.

Cloud software is extremely scalable, as in you can choose to pay for what resources you use. It's almost like the mobile phone concept of pay as you go. If you only need a small amount of resources, you only need and pay for the CPU and memory you use. If one evening your website is on television and you gain a lot of exposure, you have the resources to do. Cloud hosts automatically assign what power you need. Your website should never go offline because of an unexpected spike in traffic. You would simply be billed for the extra resources you use. In this respect, cloud hosting is more cost effective. Remember, you are still in your own separate hosting environment. No need for an expensive dedicated server anymore.

Whether cloud hosts are more reliable is the subject of fierce debate. There are however, many arguments for. As we mentioned with standard shared hosting, the website is at the mercy of a single dedicated server. Cloud hosting works by combining multiple nodes, or dedicated servers together. So if one node goes offline, the rest of the cloud is completely unaffected. You decide which is more reliable!

It is extremely quick to deploy and manage cloud hosting. Before, with a dedicated server, you have to deploy the hardware. Then you need to configure the software and services. Not with a cloud host. Servers are added and subtracted as and when they are needed.

One thing to consider about cloud hosting, is it is a relatively new technology. Dedicated servers do indeed have benefits over cloud hosting. However think of the reliability, the scalability and cost improvements. Those hosts that don't already have a cloud product, are developing one right now. This says it all. Traditional hosting cannot keep up with a cloud environment. As cloud hosts evolve, and the technology continues to improve, we can expect the reliability to get better and better.
