The Advantages Of Business Cards For Small Businesses

By: Christopher Reinhold

They may only be small in terms of their size, but business cards are regarded as one of the most important and influential advertising methods that a business can utilize. In addition, although business cards can be useful for large companies, it is the smaller businesses that often benefit more in the long term from this fantastic marketing method.

One of the primary positive aspects of business cards, which is a considerable point for smaller business as they generally have an extremely limited marketing budget to work with at first, is that they can be created for small amounts of money, making them one of the most cost effective marketing methods available.

For example, whilst there are many companies who will design a business card to a certain specification and then print it onto the most suitable material chosen by the client, these can be one of the most expensive ways to create them. Conversely, a substantial amount of smaller companies often look at downloading one of the many free designs that are available on the internet, amending it to fit their company and then printing them off on their own printer onto some strong card or thick paper. Although the first method may be the most professional, the latter is more than suitable for new and small businesses, particularly until more money is available to upgrade their current business cards.

Further to the cost factor, business cards are one of only a small selection of advertising methods that can be distributed to potential clients for reference at a later date. For instance, posters and flyers can be placed in many stores around town and on various walls that have heavy footfall traffic passing by. However, unless the poster or flyer has something that is very memorable or related to the interests of the passerby, the chances of a person remembering the company, let alone looking at their website or trying to contact them at a later date, are minimal. Business cards, however, work in the converse way and do not need to be particularly eye-catching, as they are handed to potential customers, are small enough to place in a pocket or wallet and will more than likely be looked at once the person reaches their home or office. As most people like to be organized, at least to an extent, the business card will very rarely be thrown away instantly and will more than likely be kept, even if the service that is offered is not needed immediately.

The use of a business card within any business can be seen as being an extremely effective and useful form of marketing. Whilst large conglomerates or national corporations utilize them regularly, it is often only to provide contact details to a client. However, if designed and developed properly, a business card can offer a small business a cheap yet effective way to increase their name and brand awareness, therefore hopefully increasing their client base, in turn boosting their turnover and profits.
