The 2010 Ford Fusion Gets A Variety Of Engine Options

By:

From hybrid to flex fuel to standard fuel engines, the Ford Fusion has something for everyone. The Fusion won the Motor Trend North American Car of the Year Award recently. Motor Trend says the Ford Fusion has bandwidth, meaning if the customer has specific features in mind, the Fusion can provide them.

Ford claims a Fusion with the hybrid engine option can go over 700 miles between fuel fills; that's roughly a month worth of driving for the average commuter. The 2.5 liter Atkinson-Cycle Hybrid I-4 system combines with an electric motor to provide 191 net horsepower. A true parallel hybrid, it can operate on battery alone, on fuel alone or in combination. Motor Trend says it drives like a normal car.

Next to the hybrid is the 2.5 liter standard fuel I-4. This little workhorse provides the SE model with an 18 miles per gallon city, 29 highway mpg fuel efficiency rating, and its 175 horsepower still makes it fun to take a corner.

The 3.0 liter Duratec V-6 engine is rated at 240 horsepower, and it is happy to use E85 fuel or regular gasoline or any combination of the two. It is rated for 18 city/27 highway mpg and can be paired with an all wheel drive package in the SEL model.

Last but not least, the Fusion Sport comes with a 3.5 liter Duratec V-6 delivering 283 horsepower. With sporty looks and technological frills, this model drives as its name implies. The family customer with memories of a Mustang will find driving enjoyment along with four doors to accommodate the kids.

Engine options on the 2010 Ford Fusion are paired with good handling and a six speed automatic transmission. Anyone considering the purchase of a four door sedan should test drive the Car of the Year.
