The 2010 Alice In Wonderland Version

By:

Director Tim Burton has been throughout the entirety of his career for quirky settings, characters, and stories. While he has never been accused of directing a so-called normal film, Burton has dabbled in the mainstream before, and that is what many of his fans are thinking will happen with his next film Alice in Wonderland, which is a sequel to, rather than an adaptation of, the original Lewis Carroll classic for the Walt Disney company.

According to the official synopsis, in the March 5, 2010 release, Alice, now 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.

While the film features many of Tim Burton's artistic trademarks, many fans are wondering if this will be just more of the quirky same from the director. Some of Burton's critics of recent years say that his films are all starting to look and feel the same and are not up to the same standards that he once had as a director. The film is also receiving minor criticism due to Burton casting two of his films' regulars, Johnny Depp and his wife Helena Bonham Carter as the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen, respectively, as well as Danny Elfman, whose own music has been accused of being stale lately, to the music duties. The film does feature some newcomers such as Crispin Glover, and Anne Hathaway. The film also features actors Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman, Michael Sheen, Matt Lucas, and Mia Wasikowska as the titular heroine. The story of Alice in Wonderland is one that seems to be getting stretched thinner and thinner, and it is currently unknown as to whether this will be the film to rejuvenate Burton or if this could just be, as many of his critics are saying, more of the same old Burton fare.

Many of Burton's fans are hoping that this will put Burton's creativity back on track and be just what he needs to start making the masterpieces he is well known for. However, fans will have to continue waiting for the film, as it does not open until March 5th, 2010. This is more than enough time for Burton and Alice fans to wait.
