The 2006 Dodge Ram

By:

The 2006 Dodge Ram is a continuation of the entirely overhauled style introduced a few years previous. The new features and capabilities make the Ram more on par with competitors like the Chevy Silverado and Ford F150 than ever before. The trucks have been strengthened in nearly every aspect and remain a full size pickup class leader in towing and hauling capacities. There rear leaf springs have been abandoned for a more cushy riding coil spring system. It may be possible to argue now that the half-ton Ram is the most well rounded pickup on the market for the '06 model year.

There are 5 different trim packages offered for this year and they include the ST, SLT, TRX, Sport, and the ever popular Laramie. To compliment these trim levels are 3 different cabin sizes: a regular cab, extended, and crew cab. Regular cabs remain the same size as previous models as well as the extended cab. Crew cabs have added a few inches for rear passengers and come with 2 independent rear doors. Passengers will find that with the new coil springs in the rear the ride is more than comfortable on long trips and leg room is more than ample.

ST models are basic work trucks and come with very minimal features as standard equipment. Most models will have AC and a simple stereo system, but lack many power accessories. That doesn't detract in away however from the more than impressive aspects of what it can do as a work truck. Owners who want a little more comfort from a full size pickup should at least consider a SLT model. These are usually equipped with power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, AC, CD players, and many more interior style options.

For a really cool experience that offers luxury interior quality along with performance there are the 3 different upper level trims. Sport models have been designed for the best on-pavement experience with a sport tuned suspension and better geared power-train system. Those who will be doing a lot of off-roading or driving in poor weather conditions should consider the off-road package that has a raised body and sturdier suspension system. Last there is the Laramie which is the all around luxury package. Laramie models come with full power accessories, enhanced stereo systems, Hemi engines, and full leather upholstery.

The engines offered still include the 3.7 liter V6, a 4.7 liter V8 and the 5.7 liter Hemi. Most basic models come equipped with smaller V6 engine and 2 wheel drive. Mid level packages come with the 4.7 liter V8, while most high end specialty packages have the Hemi engine as standard equipment. These engines still are worse than most competitors in fuel economy, but their overall capabilities help to offset that fact. Consumers should expect fuel consumption in the range of 14 mpg city to 18 mpg highway. The larger engines will get the lowest fuel economy out of the group.

Consumers looking for a well rounded pickup that is rugged and can haul extremely heavy loads must consider a 2006 Dodge Ram. They offer some of the most advanced interiors along with strengthened frames and suspension parts that allow it out-haul almost every competitor. The price tag isn't all that bad either, usually somewhere between the cheaper F150 and more expensive Silverado.
