The beans were first grown in Ethiopia. In the 1800's the plants were brought to Colombia. Since that time, the coffee industry has flourished in Colombia, which is now the world's second largest coffee producer and the largest producer of Arabica coffee in the world. Today Arabica beans are grown in Brazil, Indonesia and even Viet Nam, but nowhere is the taste of the beans equal to those grown in Colombia

Arabica coffee beans grow at altitudes above 4000 feet in the mountainous regions of Colombia and in fact the name means 'high grown'. The unique combination of growing conditions of volcanic soil, moisture and temperature in the region are what give the coffee beans their deep rich flavor and exquisite aroma.

There are two main growing regions in Colombia: the Central Region and the Bogota/ Bucarmanga region. Coffee grown in the Central Region is known for its heavy body, rich flavor and fine acidity. The Bogaota yield is less acidic while still rich and light. Beans grown in Bucarmanga are milder with a heavy body and robust rich flavor

The bean of choice for most gourmet coffee is the mild Colombian beans. Research shows that Arabica coffee beans have less caffeine than other coffee beans. The Colombian Supremo bean is larger than the other Colombian beans and lends itself to a superb cup. When freshly roasted, the beans are very aromatic, and yield a full body and light acidity.

Coffee is one of the little pleasures of life that everyone can enjoy without it costing a fortune. You can brew a cup at home to rival the restaurant kind and not empty your pocket doing so.
