Techniques Used By A Chiropractor To Relieve Pain

By:

A chiropractor is a medical professional that realigns or adjust ones spine to relieve the pressure from the disc between the spine vertebrae, and they use several techniques to relieve the pain and offer solace for many suffering from all levels of back pain.

What are Some Techniques Used by a Chiropractor?

A chiropractor uses spinal adjustment or manipulation techniques, soft tissue therapy, a type of deep massage, electrical stimulation, dry needling (similar to acupuncture), strength training and traction. The top five most commonly used techniques by these types of doctors are diversified techniques- high velocity low amplitude thrust; manipulation, activation methods (mechanical force, manual assisted instrument), The Thompson Technique and the Gonstead techniques, that deal with different ways of manipulating and stretching the spine.

Other Parts to the Therapy

In addition to the common techniques used the doctor will also use physical fitness and exercise techiques, nutrition and diet regiments, relaxation techniques, cryotherapy (cold packs) and heat therapy, as well as disease prevention and internal cleansers. Manipulating the spine hangs on the concept that relieving pressure from the spinal disc between the vertebrae will allow the nerves to communicate better with the body and its major organs, thereby allowing the body to heal itself from the inside out.

The most popular technique that most of the public is familiar with is what some call back cracking or spine twisting. All this is is releasing the pressure off of the disc of the spine and when that is done there is a popping sound that is heard. The techniques that are used are very helpful and relaxing to the body, it releases the pressure that is built up and the spine feels straighter.

Therapy Session

A typical session may involve a spinal adjustment of sorts, a straightening of the spine, a slight massage and possibly hot or cold therapy depending on the severity of the patient's condition. Other patients may have electrical therapy, traction or dry needling and then hot or cold therapies. In either situation the techniques used are there to help the body to heal itself and to help the organs to function at their highest level. Spinal adjustment is not just about the spine it involves the organs, the circulatory system, the tissues and the joints in the body all of these things need to be in top condition to function flawlessly together and adjusting the spine allows for that to happen.
