Taking Care Of Kittens

By:

Kittens grow up from the most fragile little creature to the most lovable and fearless acrobat in the animal planet. But during their first stage of life, a significant care of kittens is one of the crucial process in the cat's tenacious life.

The decision to raise kittens is a serious one. It affects everyone in the house and everything in your life. Consider factors like physical and emotional preparedness, budget, family condition, and other pets in the house.

Like humans, newborn kitty does only the routinely nursing, sleeping and defecating stuffs. They double their average 3.5-ounce weight from birth after the first week. Their hearing ability develops within 5-8 days. Caring for kitten this age is directing what to do for the little one.

Kittens will play with almost anything wherein socializing and bonding in this stage is much more given priority. Develop the little feline's trust while kitten develop physical skills and have fun.

Weaning. Cat mothers usually wean their kittens at about 4-week old. Feed your kitten with dry or canned foods or both that can be found in your local grocery store. Cow's milk is definitely a no-no since they can cause stomach discomfort resulting to diarrhea.

Water. Provide clean, safe and fresh water all the time in a non-plastic container. China bowls are much preferred since plastic tends to tip off easily and just spill the water.

Nutrition. Taking care for kitten's nutritional requirements is different from that of the older ones. That is because kitten's growth and development need extra protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals to get through their optimum potential.

Warmth. Kittens love to snuggle up to their mother and to their little siblings. That is because these little cats are still too young to retain body heat due to their small body structure. Placing kitten to a warm blanket in a cool dry place would provide him the warmth he needs.

Baths. Instinctively, kittens lick and clean themselves. They are know for their cleanliness. But do not bathe the kitten regularly unless necessary to do so. Remember that they still can't have the body heat retention as older cats can. One way to make the kitten clean is to wipe him with damp washcloth in short strokes.

Litter box. Make sure that kitty knows where the litter box is and that he can easily get in and out of it. Keep it clean so that it will encourage your kitten to develop a good litter box habit. Training your kitten to use the litter box is simple but requires attention to your trainee.
