Take A Declutter Challenge, And Finally See The Results You Want!

By:

It's another month, another week, another day... and it's time to set up the Declutter Challenge! Wouldn't you love to be able to come home to a clean, tidy, peaceful house? Imagine the joy of cooking in a kitchen where all of your utensils are in their correct spots, and where your counters sparkle and beg to be covered with fresh cookies as opposed to clutter? Give yourself a Declutter Challenge right now! What is a Declutter Challenge, you ask? It put it simply, it is a challenge you offer yourself (and/or your friends and family) to get a massive part of your home clutter-free in a specific time frame. And it WORKS!

The One Week Declutter Challenge

A different category of challenge will require you to designate one complete week to your challenge. This will be a genuine "no one can distract me" week throughout which you empty your schedule with the objective of gaining back what was once your clutter-free house. Assign yourself one area of the house for each day, lock yourself inside it so to speak, and get working! Garbage bags, boxes for donations, boxes for re-sell, and certainly some good ole' cleaning supplies are your must-haves. Pull your significant other, your room-mate, or your kids along with you! Many hands make light work, but also many hands make much clean!
Perhaps you will be better off to scale back and go with a One Week Office Declutter Challenge, or a One Week Garage Declutter Challenge. No worries! By committing yourself for 7 days (and seriously, what is seven days in the scheme of things), and you will definitely bring order back to a big part of your cluttered home!

The 2010 in 2010 Declutter Challenge

This kind of Declutter Challenge is a popular one. Commit yourself to decluttering (by donating, selling, or throwing out) 2010 things in the year 2010. Does that sound unreasonable? If you do the math though, it is really not as bad as it sounds. 2010 divided into 365 days is only 5.5 things every day. Look around you... your junk drawer, the cupboard in the basement, your closet, the storage shed... that makes it seem more possible now, does it? Record your success on your calendar, and see the clutter vanish!
Yet one more way you can do the 2010 Declutter Challenge is to commit 2010 minutes specifically to decluttering! That's 33.5 hours.... An awful lot until you consider that there are actually 8,760 hours in one year! This is not even one 45 minute session per week! BUT, 2010 minutes is sufficient to get a LOT clutter-free!

The 30 Day Declutter Challenge

The final kind of challenge is labeled the 30 Day Declutter Challenge, and the idea is that on each of the 30 days of the month you declutter one object or section of your house, great or little. The objects can range from the top shelf in your hallway closet to the media centre in your den, from your sock drawer to the kraft supply kit that gets hidden in the home office closet. The secret is to be reasonable with your chore assignment. Writing "put photos taken in the last 5 years into photo-albums" in all probability won't be able to be done in one afternoon, but perhaps "organize the photographs into envelopes or piles according to the occasion or child and throw out of photographs you do not need to keep" COULD be finished!
As soon as your tasks are assigned, think about planning for yourself a reward to look forward to after your 30 Day Challenge ends successfully! Yes, having a much less cluttered home will be a reward in itself, certainly you've noticed that we have a tendency to put in more effort if we have something extra to win from our pains!

So, the "One Week Declutter Challenge", and the "2010 in 2010 Declutter Challenge", and the the "30 Day Declutter Challenge"... three awesome ways to begin decluttering your home! Which challenge will you do?
