Tag Heuer Aquaracer - A Diver's Watch With Style

By:

TAG Heuer's Aquaracer is one of the brand's most iconic timepieces, a watch that is both reliably stylish and sporty helping reinforce the brands credibility as a producer of high-quality timepieces tough enough to take a beating out in the wild.

Todays Aquaracers are a varied bunch that include traditional or design-forward chronograph features, even digital displays. But that essential DNA remains the same, grounded in a dedication to producing great divers watches that do not look out of place out of the water.

Its choice of ambassador for the line is equally well-targeted: Leonardo di Caprio, a celebrity chosen as much for his credentials as an environmental activist as for his actorly abilities. The Leonardo di Caprio limited edition TAG Heuer Aquaracer, with its electric blue dial and green cross logo at six oclock royalties went to this and other environmental charities - fits neatly into the range.

TAG is still developing its Aquaracer line, still pushing the limits. Its newly released Aquaracer 500m Calibre 5 is the latest of a nautically inspired lineage that began with the Mareograph in 1950 the first chronograph with tide and regatta indicators and continued in 1982 with the Aquaracer, later renamed the 2000 series, its first series of professional diving watches and its first sports watch with the now-legendary six features.

The 2000 was water-resistant to 200m and featured a unidirectional bezel, a screw-in crown with a double safety clasp, a sapphire crystal and luminous hands. With the new model, TAG has refined that template, taking the Aquaracer to a new evolutionary peak: the six features are still there but it is now water resistant to 500m and features an automatic helium release valve. It also retains the classic TAG Heuer appeal, as high on rugged good looks as it is on utility.

So, the bezels brushed steel numbers are set in rubber, the concentric lines of which echo the pin-stripe white lines on the black dial. They in turn serve to bring out the luminescent hands and indexes as well as the orange-tipped second hand. This is both a very masculine timepiece and a divers watch with style.
