Table Centerpiece Ideas

A centerpiece can give more life and color to your table. Considering that a table is, more often than not, the site of most gatherings during social occasions, a table centerpiece serves as more than a decorative element. It also adds gaiety and, in a way, energy to the interaction at that particular moment.

A table centerpiece, first of all, must be appropriate for the occasion. Table centerpieces are usually arranged for special occasions such as holidays, weddings, anniversaries and reunions. The most popular table centerpiece decorations would be those with floral designs. The color can be made to match the occasion. For instance, Christmas calls for lively color, in particular, colors such as red and green which are the traditional colors of the season. Colors like blue and silver, on the other hand, are more suited for an occasion such as Hanukkah, although they can also be used as Christmas motifs (for snow glitter effect, for instance).

The choices of flowers are also an important one. Of course, poinsettias are for Christmas while one can use flowers such as rose for celebrations with a more romantic theme such as a wedding. Flowers like carnations or sunflower may be suited for occasions such as a casual get-together or a reunion.

In choosing a floral bundle, you also have to determine what its size will be. If you are planning on having small tables set up, such as those in a cocktail party, then you might want smaller bundles. But if you have a grander occasion and more guests, you can have bigger tables with bigger centerpieces.

Aside from flowers, you can also add candles to your centerpiece. Candles serve both as decorative and lighting element. If you want a more muted atmosphere, then candles can help you produce that effect. Candles come in many sizes and shape and it is important to choose which one will match the mood of the occasion.

You will also want to select the type of holder you will have for your centerpiece design. Will your centerpiece flowers, for instance, be open or will they be enclosed in a glass container? Will it be in a tall vase or will it be on a much flatter container?

One novel idea is to create a centerpiece with food on it. This will work well if you are holding a cocktails party, for instance. You can have pretzels on the centerpiece that one can munch one while gathered around a tall table. Fruits are also a great addition to this.

If you want to create a theme for your centerpiece, then you can do so. Native or ethnic themes can use bamboo, for instance. You can also have floating candles, ostrich feathers, or citrus fruits on your centerpiece. All of these choices are up to you to make. The important thing is that you are comfortable with whatever design you choose to have and that it suits the occasion and, more importantly, your own personal taste as well.
