Tabassum Hashmi - Bollywood Actress

Tabu is a Bollywood actress. She has also acted in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali language films and one American film. She is the life member of International Club of Asian Academy of Film and Television, Noida, India. She known for the strong and de glamorized roles she portrays in movies.

Tabu was born to Jamal Hashmi and Rizwana on 4 November 1970 in Hyderabad, India. She was christened Tabassum Hashmi. Her sister Farha and her aunt Shabana Azmi are well known Bollywood actresses. Tabu did her schooling in St Annes High School, Hyderabad, India.

Later she shifted to Mumbai in 1983 and finished her studies from St Xaviers College, Mumbai, India. Tabu started her career in the film industry when she was fifteen years old. Before that, she also played a small role n the film Bazaar in 1980.

In Hum Naujawan (1985), she played the role of Priya, Dev Anands daughter. Her first role as an actress was in the Telugu film Coolie no 1 (1991). She was also seen in the film Mashooq (1992) in a small role. Her first release in Bollywood was Pehla Pehla Pyar (1994) which went unnoticed.

The film Vijaypath (1994) made her a star overnight. She was starred along with Ajay Devgn and Suresh Oberoi. She played the role of Mohini Mona. It was directed by Faroqh Siddique and did very good business at the Box Office.

Tabu starred in Bhagmati (2005) where she played the role of Bhagmati. The film starred Milind Soman, Somayajulu J.V., Hema Malini, Ashok Kaul, Mahima Chaudhry and Somayajulu. It was directed by Ashok Kaul and did average business at the Box Office.

In the film Hanuman (1998), Tabu played the role of Anja. The film starred Robert Cavanah, Nathalie Auffret, Khalid Tyabji, Sidney Kean and Javed Jaffrey. It was directed by Fred Fougea and did good business at the Box Office.

Tabu won her first Film fare awards as the Best Newcomer in the year 1995. Tabu nominated for the films Astitva (2000), in 2001 and Chandni bar (2001), in 2002 at the Film fare awards.

She has received the Filmfare award for her role in films like Virasat (1997), Hu tu tu (1999), Astitva (2000) and Cheeni kum (2002). all these awards were in the category of best actress critics. Tabu also won the silver lotus award as the best actress for her films Maachis (1996) in 1997 and Chandni bar (2001) in 2002.
