If you want to switch gas supplier you will need to do the following:

*Work out how much you currently pay for your gas.
*Work out what kind of tariff suits you best when you switch gas supplier.
*Compare the different tariffs from the different suppliers.

Before you can work out if you can get a better deal for your gas its important to find out how much you are already spending each year. If you have been with your energy supplier for at least a year you should be able to find out how much you spend on energy from your gas bill. In addition it should state an estimate of how much you'll spend on your supply over the next twelve months based on the fact that you stay on the same tariff and use the same amount of energy.

Even if you do not get regular bills from your energy supplier, energy suppliers must send all customers who have been with them for a year an annual statement. All the information you will need to compare costs accurately will be there if you are thinking to switch gas supplier.

You can also contact your gas supplier and ask them to tell you how much gas you have used over the past year. Your costs should be based on the actual amount of energy you have used rather then on estimated readings. The best way to compare gas suppliers is by using an approved comparison website. Comparison websites are a quick way to look at the prices on offer from many suppliers. If you use an approved website you will be able to compare your current gas supplier with the rates offered by the other main suppliers!
