We all know just how important exercise is for our overall health and well-being. But many women and men shudder at the prospect of hitting the gym. Look for opportunities to burn a few extra calories every day. Park far away from your office building, the mall, or the grocery store. If you're in a hurry, do it anyway--that just gives you an excuse to walk faster! Pace or do lunges while talking on the phone. Lift free weights or do shoulder shrugs while watching television. It can be helpful to have a smart phone application or watch with a calorie-counting function to assist you in keeping track.

Do what you love. If you don't know of any particular activity that catches your interest, then go exploring. Take classes in sports or self-defense at a local community college or check out what is going on at the neighborhood community center.

Devote family night, date night, or girls'/guys' night into a physical activity. Skip the bar, particularly because alcohol is loaded with calories (each gram of alcohol is packed with seven calories, not to mention the four calories included in each gram of carbohydrates), and go for a run, go hiking, hit the yoga studio, or best yet, go to a night club!

Dancing the night away at a favorite neighborhood night club absolutely torches calories, and it's fun to boot. When I began spending my weekends out dancing with my friends, the extra pounds melted away. I lost almost ten pounds in a single month.

However, make sure that you wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated throughout the evening, just like you would before and during a workout at the gym. Avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol.

Don't underestimate the power of exercise DVDs that you can use in your own home. This helps you set your own pace and change up the routine often. If you are afraid of being unable to keep up, you can just rewind it and try again.
