Sunless Spray Tan Booths: Things You Should Know

By:

Sunless spray tanning booths have emerged as one of the most popular tanning options especially among people who dont tan easily or fair skinned people who get burns because of over exposure to the sun or for that matter anyone who wants the perfect sun kissed look without going out in the sun. While sunless spray tanning booths effectively reduce the sun damage caused while natural tanning, in order to get perfectly smooth and even tan, one must use the sunless spray tan booth correctly. Here in this article we will look at the various aspects of tanning in a spray tan booth.

Sunless Spray Tanning Booth: How it Works

While there are a number of different brands of spray on tanning booths, most of them resemble a tall shower stall. Prior to the spray tanning session, a person must exfoliate and moisturize the skin properly. However, before stepping into the tanning booth, you can apply lotion to the areas you dont want to be tanned, such as the palms, feet, toenails and finger nails. The spray tanning booth activates at the touch of a button. Shortly afterwards, the tanning solution is emitted from the spray nozzles in the form of a fine mist which coats the body. The entire spray tanning process is over in less than a minute. After the session is over, you just need to towel off and put your clothes back on and wait for the tan to develop further.

Sunless Spray Tanning Booths: Tanning Solution

The tanning solution used in sunless spray tanning booths is usually a combination of a bronzer, moisturizers (like aloe vera) and dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is the ingredient which causes the appearance of a tan by reacting with the bodys skin cells. The tan achieved using the sunless spray tanning booth lasts for only about five to ten days as the body will eventually shed the tanned skin cells and exfoliate the tan away.

Sunless Spray Tanning Booths: Proper Usage

One drawback with sunless spray tanning is streaking or over-saturation. Over-saturation or streaking occurs when the tanner solution collects at places such as the hands, elbows and the knees. Applying a protective lotion on these areas will help protect these areas from streaking. Also, make sure that you:

Avoid showering or any form of prolonged contact with water during the first eight hours after the tanning session as this will allow the tan to develop properly before it is washed away.

The best way however, to prevent over-saturation is to exfoliate properly before the sunless tanning session. Also, if you plan to apply lotions, you must use one which has been specifically designed for use with sunless tanning. Just using any brand of lotion can in fact do more harm to your tan than any good. So just exfoliating would be a better option.
