Summer In The City

Summer is the season most people wait for all year. For students and teachers, it means time off, and for the rest of us it means nice weather, lunch breaks in the park and vacation? The vacation question is a tricky one - those who have planned ahead have probably booked off some time to escape the city in the summer, while others might find themselves having used up all their holiday time already and are facing a summer in the city. For those of you who fall into the second category, do not fear, there are many ways to enjoy a summer in the city.

London Lidos:

Okay, it may not be the Mediterranean but it is fresh water and it is outdoors. London is filled with fresh water ponds that tourists and residents are welcome to swim in and tan outside of all summer long. There is sometimes a small entrance fee but it is well worth it for an afternoon splash. The best part is that it's a chance to hang around with other Londoners stuck in the city for the summer- who knows maybe you'll make a friend or two.

Hot air balloon ride:

If adventure is what you're after then a hot air balloon ride over London or the Home Counties might offer just enough adrenaline to get you going. Enjoy the beautiful views while you fly over the city and into the clouds on a ride you're sure to never forget. Take-off points are easy to get to and flights don't take more than a morning or afternoon, so an ideal little adventure for those tight on time.

Music Festivals:

One thing about the English is they know and love good music. From international headliners to small indie bands there is something for everyone all summer long in London and the Home Counties. From tubing to Hyde Park on a Saturday afternoon to camping in Croydon for a four-day gig every festival experience is available to experience.

Weekend Markets:

Sure the markets of London are open all year long, but they get so much better in the summer when the weather is actually nice enough to enjoy them. After all browsing through a rack of vintage finds on Portobello or nibbling from stall to stall in Borough market is not quite the same in the rain.

So you see there are many ways to enjoy a summer in the city even if all your friends are away in exotic places.
