Schools have closed for the summer and activity centers in Goa are working round the clock in designing exciting packages for kids this season. From film making to kayaking, take your pick from among the several activities listed below.

Swimming classes Aqua Fiesta at Cidade de Goa
Cidade de Goa, Dona Paula, invites children aged 5 to 15 years to join their basic and advanced swimming classes. The students will be under the guidance and supervision of trained and qualified instructors. The Basic swimming classes will be divided into two batches 10 students per batch in the morning from 10 AM to 11 AM and in the evening from 4 PM to 5 PM daily. The course will cost Rs. 4,200 plus applicable taxes. A certificate will be issued on completion. The Advanced swimming skills include breaststroke, and further development of freestyle and backstroke. The morning batch begins at 9 AM and ends at 10 AM, while the evening one is from 5 PM to 6 PM. The course costs Rs. 4,000 plus applicable taxes. A certificate will also be issued at the end.On completion of both courses, children will have an additional 15 days to practice in the swimming pool.

French courses at Alliance Francaise de Panjim, Goa
Alliance Francaise de Panjim, Goa, is organising French classes for beginners, which start on April 11, Monday to Friday from 10am to 12pm. The leading French language school also offers intermediate and conversational French courses. The Kids Camp starts on May 2, Monday to Friday from 10am to 12pm.

Film workshop at Communicare Culture Centre
Communicare Culture Centre in collaboration with Lotus Film and TV Productions is holding a 12-day workshop (48 hours) for aspiring film makers who have completed class 11 from April 18 to April 30. The workshop will include task distribution, script writing, pre-production, production, shooting and editing. The documentaries produced will be presented to friends and family on the last day. Also, they will be aired on TV. The film workshop costs Rs. 6,000. Lotus Film and TV Productions is a well-established company having collaborated with the Portuguese International channel (RTPi) for the last five years. It has completed more than 70 documentaries on Goan culture. Lotus documentaries were selected for two consecutives years for the Vasudha Awards during IFFI 2009 and 2010.

Goa Kayaking
Goa Kayaking presents the tenth introduction to kayaking and training programme from April 4 to April 7 at Hollant Bay, Vasco-da-Gama and from April 9 to April 12 at Vaiguinim Beach, Dona Paula. Module 1 (training) introduces learners to kayaking, basic paddle stokes, getting in and out, navigating, tracking and turning. Module 2 (practice) includes four sessions spread over four days with solo kayaking for every trainee. The programme is open to adults and children (above eight years) with basic swimming skills. Enroll at Angleys Sports, opp. the Municipal Garden, Panjim or at Norberts Fitness Studio, Miramar-Dona Paula road.

Eco Treks Goa
Eco Treks Goa is organizing a summer trek to the Himalayas from May 16 to May 30, which offers excellent scope for photographers, nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The trek, essentially for trekkers above 12 years, although younger children will be considered on merit, will cover the Manali Pirpanjal range as well as the Haripur and Shirgan-Tungu area. The easy to moderate trek requires a reasonable degree of physical fitness. First aid will be available at every camp. Those on special medication should bring their own necessary medicines. People suffering from asthma, blood pressure, heart problems or any high altitude ailments are advised not to participate.

Dance classes at Xtremers Dance Academy
Xtremers Dance Academy is organizing a summer dance camp at several venues across the state including Panjim, Margao, Ponda, Vasco, Mapusa, Bicholim, Porvorim, Colva, Old Goa, Calangute and Candolim. Basic hip hop and Bollywood Masala will be taught to children aged three to six and 7 to 12. For teenagers and adults, basic hip hop, B-boying, locking and popping, Bollywood Masala, contemporary, dance aerobics (only for women) and a beginners course in Latin-Salsa. Registration for batches are on a first come, first served basis.

Summer classes for children at Studio 101
Studio 101 presents Summer Classes for Kids aged five to ten years between 7 AM and 8 AM. Children can enjoy some dance and fitness moves in Zumbatomics or groove to Bollwood Hip Hop or even indulge in yoga. A fun way to learn a classical dance and get acquainted with the Indian culture is through the Intro to Bharatnatyam, while children can burn calories through Boot Camp. A discount is available if you enroll you child for more than one class.

Summer Club at Don Bosco School, Parra and Don Bosco Community College, Loutolim
Don Bosco School, Verla-Parra is organizing a six-week bonanza of enjoyable learning for boys and girls (five years and above) at a Summer Club from April 11 to May 21. From 9 AM to 12.30 PM and then from 3 PM to 6 PM, children will partake in several games and recreational activities such as football, cricket, volleyball, table-tennis, badminton and other sports. Daily English classes will be held and basic French will be taught on Saturdays. Other educational activities include a three-week theatre workshop, which will culminate in a skit on the last day, a road safety and first aid session conducted by a member of the Indian Red Cross, a leadership camp, and art and craft. The special courses on offer include basic tailoring and embroidery, basic electricity, mobile repairs and maintenance, basic computer hardware and software skills, beautician and hairstyling skills and time management among others. Don Bosco Community College, Loutolim has a similar programme with the addition of a kite flying competition, a football tournament and even a coconut breaking tournament. The summer club begins on April 10.
