Sum 41 Rocks Around The World

By:

Punk rock is a type of music that began in the mid 70s and Sum 41 is a younger group that has heartily embraced this style of musical mayhem. The Canadian rockers have developed a strong following in several countries even though they have only been in the mainstream action for a few years. Typically, the group performs songs with beats that are fast paced, rock with sizzle and the lyrics contain a hard-edged ruthlessness. Many of the songs deal with controversy, politics, cultural mores, and going against what is viewed as the "establishment". To younger teens, this type of music is often appealing because they feel it speaks to them and reflects much of what is going on in their own lives.

Sum 41 is from Canada and Deryck Whibley and Steve Jocz have been members from the time the group formed. Current members of the band include Steve Jocz on drums, other percussion instruments, and backup vocals; Deryck Whibley and Cone McCaslin are the guitarists and both also perform vocals. Whibley is the lead vocalist ant handles the keyboard in addition to the guitar work. McCaslin is a backup vocalist and works his magic with the bass guitar. Tom Thacker is a touring member of the group who is another guitar wizard.

The group first signed a contract with Island Records in 1999. This was the start of a meteoric rise in the punk world and Sum 41 merch has been a very big part of the story. Fans are extremely enthusiastic about the unique musical sound the band brings to the performance stage. There have been 4 albums recorded "in studio" and released and each of them has been verified as a platinum seller in their native Canada.
