Sudden House Fires Can Come From Many Sources

By:

You just never know what specific thing can cause a fire in your house. It can be from a heater, fireplace, candles, or shorted out electrical wiring. Downed power lines near your home might even start a fire during a storm that rips some down. A tornado, severe thunderstorm, or heavy ice storm will often cause power lines to come down and many times these wires are still alive with plenty of electricity until the power company gets them off.

These live wires could even land on your homes causing them to start on fire. As long as these lines are down and on, they can start whatever they touch on fire. If this happens, you will not have electricity to your home, but this downed line will be very much alive. In fires like these you will not have much time so you will want to have a grab bag that you take on your way out. You will need to have these bags close by to take as you are going out the door or even the window if this is the only way out.

These lines are like your old straight candles. When either of these fall over, their fire is already burning. You will need to have some kind of fire alarm or smoke detector in your home just in case this should happen at night when all is asleep. If you happen to be a heavy sleeper, you will need to have more than one in your home. If you should wake up to a fire in your room, try not to jolt yourself out of bed. The fumes and the heat from this fire might cause you to pass out and then you will not be able to get out of your home.

Our firefighters tell us to drop and crawl, but if you have carpets in these rooms never stick your face right down on this rug. The toxic fumes can get trapped in the fibers of this carpet which will cause you to pass out or it might even kill you. You will need to get on your hands and knees and get as close to this rug as you can without putting your face flat on the rug. You will also need to have a escape plan that will help you and your family leave the home. This plan will need to be have been practiced many times in order for it to go smoothly. A fire in the night is a nightmare for any family and knowing what to do and where to go ahead of time could help save anyone from being harmed.
