Most of those new to the art of smoking cigars find that they need a bit of instruction when it comes to using a cigar lighter to get their smoke going. While lighting that cigar is certainly necessary, it requires more than just a flame. You'll need patience, as well as the right tools and some vital information. Knowhow is one of the most important factors in this equation, though torch lighters are also important considerations. If you are using a torch lighter and a quality cigar cutter, your process will be much simpler than otherwise.

Now, before you light up, you have to remove 1/8th of the cigar's cap. You'll see where the cap meets the cigar, as the shoulders of the cigar are rounded. Place your cutter here and depress the blade. Once removed, it's time to move on to more important matters. Now that the cutting has been done, it's time to warm up that cigar with your lighter. Warming the tobacco is an essential step and you should never bypass this, as it can ruin your smoking experience.

This is a process called toasting and it is required to bring the tobacco up to temperature. You should also ensure that the lighter you use is fueled with butane, rather than lighter fluid, as butane is odorless and tasteless. Therefore, it will not taint the cigar with any chemical flavors or odors. Once the cigar has been toasted, you can continue with the lighting process. Place the cigar in your mouth at a 45-degree angle. Hold the cigar's body with one hand and use the other to hold the lighter. Light the lighter and hold the cigar over the flame. Turn the cigar in your mouth, and draw on it as it turns.

Now, once the cigar is toasted, place it in your mouth at a 45-degree angle. Hold the body of the cigar in one hand (between your fingers) and hold the lighter with the other. Light the lighter and hold the flame just in front of the cigar.

Turn the cigar while drawing on it and you will see the flame bend to caress the foot of the cigar. Turing the cigar at this point ensures that the entire end is lit evenly, which is essential to avoid runs and uneven burning. When the cigar is lit evenly, take it out of your mouth. Inspect the foot of the cigar and locate any areas that are unlit or just smoldering. Reapply the flame to these areas and your cigar will be ready to smoke, offering considerable relaxation and enjoyment.
