Stun Gun And Tasers-how Are They Different?

By:

Stun guns and tasers are both in a category of products called self defense products. They are designed to provide a nonlethal alternative to deadly force. Their purpose is to incapacitate an assailant long enough for the user to get away and seek help or just get away. It should be noted that no long-lasting damage can occur to an assailant from either of these.

Many people get stun guns and tasers confused. A lot of that comes from television media who frequently interchange the two. And while they are both considered stun devices for legal purposes and they are both effective that is pretty much where the similarities end.

Over 11,000 law enforcement agencies throughout the country and in several foreign countries tasers are carried on the utility belt that is how effective they are.

Here are some of the major differences:

The cost: tasers range from $300.00 to $1000.00 and more depending on model. Their cheaper brother ranges from the low $20s to as much as $90.00

Appearance: some tasers are about the size of your hand; some are handgun sized. Their little brothers are about the size of the palm your hand; some are disguised as camera cell phones for added effectiveness.

Operation: tasers disrupt the nervous and muscular system. Stunners disrupt only the nervous system.

Distance: tasers have an effective range up to 15 feet. Stun guns have to be applied to an assailant's body.

Energy: a taser uses 50,000 V with 18 watts of energy. Their little brothers can transmit up to 4.5 million volts with somewhere between seven and 14 W of energy. The wattage is what makes the difference.

Effectiveness: tasers have been repeatedly tested and found to be more effective than a 9 mm hand in in stopping power and are nearly 100% effective. Stun guns are on average 86% percent effective.

Those are the basic differences. The differences between them are important for you to know because they both save lives. The one you choose could save YOUR life.

When are you getting one?

If you feel threatened by an assailant point a charging stun gun at him and hold it up for the bad guys to see the flying current and hear the sounds. From a distance the crackling noise alone and blue sparks that stun guns give off when activated may be enough to keep attackers at bay.

If you are in the market for a self defense product look for quality, effectiveness, and a biggie-LEGALITY. Stun guns and tasers are not legal in some states. Check with your local police department first before you get one.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and to him you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Chances are if you are reading this that crime has touched your life in some way or you consider yourself at risk. Take the next step and do something to protect yourself! Your life and safety is worth far more than the cost of a stun gun or taser.
