Stop The Itch, Nature's Way

By:

There is a whole long list of things that can cause human skin to itch. Such things as allergies (to food, plants, or pets), insect bites, stings, skin disease (like psoriasis) or even poor hygiene can cause us to itch. Wikipedia defines "itch" as: "a sensation felt on an area of skin that causes a person or animal to desire to scratch that area. It is a distressing symptom that can cause discomfort. Scratching may cause breaks in the skin that may result in infection."

My mother when I was younger, always told me to "rub an itch, don't scratch"." It turns out that once again, Mother knew what she was talking about. Scratching can break the skin. Broken skin provides an opening into our bodies where all kinds of nasty things like germs, bacteria, and fungi can enter and make us sick. "Not scratching, but rubbing an itch" is really good advice. But the idea is to actually stop the itch. Rubbing an itch provides only very temporary relief.

People have itched since the beginning of civilization, so, as you can imagine, there are a whole lot of itch relief home remedies. Here are a few of the more effective home remedy relief techniques to relieve an itch:

Using a can of evaporated milk in a warm bath with additional ingredients such as baking soda or oatmeal. Itchy skin can affectively be treated with the milk.

* Rub the itch with any one or these natural substances: Cod Liver Oil, Lemon Juice, Wheat Germ Oil, Witch Hazel Tea or Vitamin E Oil.

* Cornstarch, the kind that you have in your kitchen cabinet, helps relieve itching. You can either use it like bath powder or pour some into your bath water.

* Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to your bath water.

Itchy burning rashes on the groin and legs can be symptoms of Jock Itch. Keeping the area very clean and as dry as possible will help cure this. Keep treating the area for two weeks, including one week after the rash disappears to make sure it is gone permanently.

Some of the above remedies can be used to treat jock itch, which can cause itchiness around a man groin area. If after two weeks it has not disappeared, then you must go and see your doctor.
