Step Drill Bits Can Work Effectively With Stones

By:

The process of reaming is not a complicated one yet many people make it so.Options that are perceived to be easier are favoured over reamers which are one of the best ways to drill an accurately sized hole. When it comes to dealing with masonry, other drill bits are preferred although a step drill will really do a great job. When cutting into stone, it is possible to use regular bits. However, regular drill bits have a higher likelihood of causing damage to the material.Traditional bits are not designed to drill holes in stone because they slow down in the middle of the project, forcing the holder of the drill to place unnecessary pressure on the stone, thus cracking it.A step drill is a far better choice because it has a better design and it even trumps masonry drill bits specifically designed for the job.

When rock or concrete have to be drilled using a masonry drill bit, a minimum of two drill bits are needed.Simply drilling straight through the stone will not give you the required precision.Unless you are incredibly fortunate, this method of drilling will likely result in broken stone.Drilling a hole carefully using a smaller bit is necessary. The heavy drill will get a starting point to start. One must use a hammer action drill and a masonry drill bit together.

Drilling a small hole first is not required as a step drill bit has a special design that makes this unnecessary. The shape of the drill bit is such that in the piece, the tip of the drill bit is the smallest part.As you go further to the shaft, the width will keep increasing. This means that a step drill will create a small hole immediately and gradually increase its size the deeper it penetrates the rock. There is very little chance of damaging the stone unless it is drilled too quickly as fewer vibrations are made with a step drill unlike regular ones.

In using a step drill, there are only a few drawbacks. For instance, as the drill cannot reach very deep, it may not be able to drill deep holes.Another example is that your drilling efforts will be more difficult if you need a hole to be smaller in width than the thickest part of the step drill.Even so the step drill's quality is much better than that of a normal drill. When it comes to cleaning up holes, reamers are the ideal solution.A perfectly drilled hole without any cracking in the surface area of the stone would result from this.

As you can see, a step drill bit is a much better method of carefully drilling through rock than traditional or even masonry bits because it is safer and quicker. They are not difficult to use and are relatively inexpensive, especially compared to some of the specialized equipment on the market.
