Steaming High Definition For Free

By:

All this home theater technology has cost a lot of money, but there is a break coming after spending hundreds of dollars on televisions, Blu-ray players, computer equipment, and special television service for high definition quality. Now you can stream many high quality programs right to your computer. This is gaining popularity for both movie and television shows and commercials even appear for some of these free services on standard cable television. This does not take money from the cable service you have with your home theater, but it does make television and movie access cheaper and more portable for the computer user.

Some of these sites make deals with movie studios and television production companies to air their movies or a certain number of television episodes. This started with cancelled and older television shows. These shows were an easy draw and cheap to obtain. They let people that enjoy classic television move into the next century and watch it online. I find this funny because the computer screens people use are larger than some of the televisions these shows originally aired on. After cancelled shows came cartoons and family programming. While premium channels rarely make such deals for their content, standard channels were more than willing to branch out. Now you can catch many of your favorite weekly comedies and dramas online. If you have a mobile broadband connection attached to your laptop, you can watch your television shows on the go.

Movies are a whole different ballgame. Some of the movies the sites offered in the beginning were B grade movies, and very few people watched them. Once older movies we remember started appearing, the public took notice of how convenient it was to watch a movie at our computer desk. If you are at the airport on a layover, eating lunch at a diner with wifi access, in your dorm room with no tv, or otherwise traveling, you can log on to a webpage and catch a Friday night movie without ever buying a ticket or paying for a video rental. You will not get the new releases legally, but the technology is definately becoming more relavant than it was before.

Soon you will be able to buy movie passes to new releases and stream them to your television or computer. How are these companies making money though? They do it the same way regular television does, and that is with commercials. While streaming television online has fewer commercials, usually only one commercial per break, the sites also have banner ads everywhere. Companies that are catching on pay premium dollars to get commercial spots on these online shows, and public service announcements are places inbetween as well.
