Star Wars: The Old Republic Pre-beta Gameplay Impressions

Star Wars: The Old Republic Pre-beta Gameplay Impressions

The Star Wars franchise is moving into the MMO realm and though it's at present in the testing phase (set to release 2nd half of 2011) there was a lot of information about how the game will play.

Star wars the old republic will be the latest addition of video games to the star wars franchise. Not like earlier role playing video games based mostly on the star wars back story, SWTOR will be a fully fledged MMORPG. It is good to know that Bioware the previous creators of the last couple of very well selling star wars rpgs such as knights of the old republic, is again at the helm and creating this.

One of many new touted options of the SWTOR MMORPG is one thing they call "flashpoint", and is one of the greatest renovations to the game, and possibly to MMORPGs; to have come in a long time. Though it has a fancy name, in SWTOR flashpoint refers to how the game will create and instance dungeons. A flashpoint is an instanced dungeon that is created to be more tightly woven into your personal game storyline.

Most MMORPGs are closely action targeted and the storyline is usually a bit of a throw away, meaning it's there just to provide you a vague sense of some cause for the locales you happen to be in. Nonetheless, the point then is basically simply to kill monsters to get a) XP or b) loot. Story line shouldn't be actually the foremost focus. What do you do with XP and loot? Simple you move from PvM (player vs monster) into the PvP (player vs player) realm where all that loot and XP gets pitted in opposition to different players.

In contrast to traditional MMOs, classes in The Old Republic aren't restricted to the typical archetypes. BioWare has acknowledged that every class will support on-the-fly customization that will allow any class to fill any role within a party, eliminating the need to spam channels looking for a selected class needed to fill a role within a group, which can delay or outright stop parties from finishing group-quests. While each class in The Old Republic will still favor a certain play style (be it ranged, melee, or otherwise), customization combined with companion characters will make for having a class be capable of tackle many different situations, with or without the support of different player characters, and with out requiring particular other classes with the intention to transfer forward.

Though many will get pleasure from pitting their abilities and wits against other skilled opponents online, I personally favored to play MMO rpgs cooperatively and enjoy the storyline and surroundings as I pass through it. Too often when playing an MMO the concept of enjoying the journey gets lost as you blindly get sucked into just levelling (i.e. grinding) to hit the PvP tiers.

This is where SWTOR becomes attention-grabbing, with Bioware behind the development and understanding their insane build quality for good well thought out rpgs and storylines I can't wait to see how the game will finally change into like when it is released.
