Sports clothing has been specifically developed to enhance sporting performance and to be practical and useful but it has become a recognised fashion in its own right. It all began in the 1920s and 30s with fashion designers such as Coco Chanel pioneered a androgynous look with sportswear moving to the fore front of fashion. This trend has continued to grow right through to the present day, companies that developed sportswear specifically for the industry started creating clothes that could cross over into casual clothing and become staple wardrobe items. You can see the influence from various areas of sport from rugby and golf through to sports such as surfing.
