Spike Tv's Diamond Divers Heads To Africa's Skelton Coast

A team of fearless divers and sailors will be heading to South Africas Skelton Coast as part of a new TV series for Spike TV, an American cable channel.

Diamond Divers will be a 10-episode season that will follow the courageous crew as they take part in scuba diving adventures beneath some of the most dangerous ocean waters in the world.

Spike TV is well known as a TV channel for guys and features re-runs of popular shows including CSI and Unsolved Mysteries as well as wrestling shows.

The crew members from Washington state include Captain John who is "a big-game hunting, Harley-Davidson riding, hardscrabble, financially-ambitious boat captain"; John's son, Jason, a former Marine who will be the crew's mechanic; and "Doc," a former Navy medic.

The TV show will see the crew mining for diamonds and scuba diving in Africa as they seek underwater treasures such as shipwrecks.

Skeleton Coast is situated along the northern part of the Atlantic coat of Namibia and was given the name when the whaling industry was still active and whale and seal bones lined the shores. The coast also got its name after numerous shipwrecks that were caused by fog and there are said to be over 1,000 shipwrecks scattered along the coast, making it one of the most coveted and dangerous scuba diving destinations in the world. Famous shipwrecks include the Eduard Bohlen, the Otavi, the Dunedin Star, and Tong Taw.

While the Skeleton Coast might not be the most accessible spot for scuba diving holidays, Africa offers plenty of scuba diving locations in countries like Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Zanzibar, Malawi and South Africa.

The waters surrounding the African continent are home to an array of magnificent marine creatures including sharks, whales, seals, lobsters, sea turtles, dugongs, and thousands of species of fish, colourful corals and sea plants.

The new TV show, Diamond Divers, was produced by Studio Lambert, who is the creator of "Undercover Boss" and "The Pitch", and Executive Producers Eli Holzman and Stephen Lambert. The series is being filmed this autumn and is scheduled to air on Spike TV in the Unites States in 2012.
