Kirk Demeter, President of Down Under Answers and an avid
golfer says that when traveling to Australia and New
Zealand, most tourists have visions of kangaroos, snowy
peaks and friendly people. The idea of traveling to the
South Pacific to enjoy a golf vacation doesn't often come
to mind. However, think again - golfing in Australia and
New Zealand is world-class, and at times an unbelievable
value.

Golf has been around in Australia since the late 1800's
and the oldest course in Australia is surprisingly in
Tasmania.

Recently, two courses in New Zealand opened that will take
your breath away. The setting, the layout, the challenge -
these courses could compete on the international scale for
the best in the world.

Designer courses mixed with spectacular coastal outlooks,
courses built on the edge of cliffs and tropical courses in
the Islands provide the golfer enough challenge to hone
their game.

Australia alone has over 1500 golf courses to choose from
and true to its reputation as a wonderfully temperate
vacation spot, these courses are playable year round.

There are so many more courses that provide stunning
scenery, exceptional greens and challenging bunkers - the
most important thing to remember is that you can have it
all - Golf in Australia and New Zealand will not set you
back hundreds of dollars, you can play on these courses and
still afford a lobster dinner and a 5 star hotel and come
out ahead.

One of the best exercises to do when planning a golf trip
is to look at all costs. In most cases, a trip from
Minnesota to Hawaii to golf may appear to be a better value
than golfing in Australia or New Zealand. But once you get
past the initial increase in airfare, you'll find that your
lodgings are cheaper, your meals are cheaper, and the green
fees are much less expensive. When all is said and done,
golfing in Australia and New Zealand allows for the best
overall experience, with all the added benefits of being in
the South Pacific.
