Review of Sony Bravia KDL-22CX32(KDL22CX32D) 22 inch HD Ready LCD - DVD Combi Widescreen LCD TV with Digital Freeview HD

The ever so popular small screen market is not supported quite as much as it should be. For a super 22 inch combi which is reasonably priced, have a look at this latest Sony Bravia incarnation, the Sony KDL-22CX32D .

With most people owning second, third and fourth tvs, there is always a good market for solid small, space saving tv's, where space is at a premium eg in the kitchen or the childrens bedroom.

The Sony KDL22CX32 is a Bravia which is 22 inch in size, has a very cute slide in DVD mechanism on the right and side, digital freeview, twin HDMI inputs with Bravia sync and a 1366 x 768 resolution (HD 1080i ready).

The build on the Sony KDL22CX32 is to their usual high standard, and the aesthetics are pleasing to the eye with the mixture of high gloss black and the “brushed” aluminium look across the bottom.
The operating system is typically Sony with the now Sony “standard” X Bar system looking after everything you need to find on the tv.

Turn on the Sony KDL-22CX32D HDTV , let the tv go through its easy to follow auto install, adjust the contrast and brightness as the factory settings are the usual “shop” mode and create a little colour bleed and over processing and away we go.

The picture performance is very accurate in freeview. Great contrast and minimal blurring give a very involving picture that is easy to watch for general every day viewing. Sports maintain the action and I found very little digital noise / artifacts that seem to dog larger LCD sets on live events.

Pop in a DVD (not blu ray unfortunately) on the Sony KDL-22CX32 and we are greeted with a superb image performance also. Our test disc, Return of the King, had all the vibrancy and colouration that we are used to on much higher specified sets. Greens and whites were insightful, with plenty of attack on blues and reds. The blacks showed a slight greying but we are dealing with LCD here!

The audio performance was ok on the Sony KDL22CX32, dialogue was presented with plenty of gusto and I can say the speakers only gave way at the lower bassier frequencies.

As it is a second tv we also tried a little gaming on the Sony KDL22CX32D to see how it performed. Call of Duty lacked none of the finesse and even on ultra rapid movement seemed to keep up brilliantly.

As a second tv, the Sony KDL-22CX32 is a brilliant example. Ok so its lacks blu ray and maybe 100hz, but we are dealing with a smaller example of television set here and I would argue that you do not need the processing on this size of tv as you are not expanding the image over such a big area.
