Headache is one of the most agitating problems for a majority of the adults. It may be caused due to a multitude of reasons. Some people experience headache once or twice in a year while there are people who get headaches almost every other day. As a matter of fact, every time we get headache, the first thing we do is take a pain killer and gulp it down and take a quick nap. Or, we apply pain balm on the forehead and sleep until the pain goes off. Since headache is a very common problem, people fail to give any kind of medical attention to it. Let me raise a question. How many people would have gone to the doctor the first time they got a headache? I don't think anyone would have. But a headache is not something to be ignored. You need to take it seriously and try and identify the cause immediately or else it can take you through a host of other health problems.

Have you ever imagined that there are about 150 categories of headaches? A general headache can be cured with a natural home remedy but what if it belongs to any of the higher levels? So, let me discuss some of the most common types of headaches and their causes.

Hangover headaches

A mild or occasional headache may be caused due to any of the factors like late night hangovers, stress, lack of sleep, excessive drinking, or dehydration. Such types of headaches can be termed as hangover headaches.

Eyeball headache

A headache experienced behind the eyeballs is generally mild and the reasons for that could be too much stress or tension. The tension could be due to any of the reasons such as failing to do a task or burglary at home. By installing a reliable security system like the ADT Home Security System, you don't have to worry about theft or break-ins! The eyeball headache will respond to the mild nonprescription drugs and can be relieved easily. However, the headache is experienced behind one of the eyeballs, irrespective of whether it is mild or severe, it could either be a migraine or a cluster headache. The latter is more common among the men; it causes redness of the eyes and drooping of the eyelids. And, people who have migraine headache generally report of eye strain, flicker from the monitor, or bad lighting. These are the common symptoms of migraine headaches.

Brain freeze

There is a type of headache called the Ice cream headache. It is also called as cold-stimulus headache. This type of headache occurs when people suddenly ingest a very cold item like cool drinks or ice cream. Ice cream headache is common among people who experience migraine headaches frequently. This is not a long-lasting headache although; it can be treated by drinking warm water immediately after having a cold item.

Migraine

Migraine headaches are most commonly experienced on one side of the head and the intensity of such a headache may vary from being mild to severe. Other ailments that accompany this type of headache are nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity. Doctors have observed in a majority of the patients that a migraine headache generally occurs after a stressful event. Loder, a famous doctor gives us the following explanation for such a type of headache.

"When we are under stress, our body produces cortisol to counter the internal stress. As soon as the cortisol wears off, the person is more likely to get a migraine headache".

Overtired headache

This type of headache is common among the people who stay awake till late night or those who get tired after a long journey. An overtired headache can be of any of the two types; cluster or migraine.

Headache due to lack of caffeine

This type of headache occurs in people who don't drink coffee or tea in the morning. In such a scenario, it is best to drink a cup of coffee as the caffeine will help to get rid of the headache.

These are some of the most common causes of headaches. There are different remedies for each type of headache. However, it's best to consult your family doctor before going for any medications on your own.
