Social Networking Among Therapy Jobs

By:

Today's social networking environment is revolutionizing the way businesses and individuals communicate with one another. A new paradigm shift is underway which is impacting worldwide communications in 2011 just as significantly as the widespread adoption of e-mail did in the late 1980s. Those who embrace social networking and learn to take advantage of its many opportunities are the ones that stay ahead of the curve. This is true for both personal and business relationships.

In the healthcare business, therapists are beginning to understand the benefits of engaging social media as a means to advance their professional goals. Therapist jobs are based primarily on relationships; relationships with patients, colleagues, and others within the healthcare realm who might prove to be beneficial. It stands to reason then, that the more communication and contact there is between a therapist and all of his resources, the more they will all benefit. Among all the social networking venues out there, the three most popular are LinkedIn, FaceBook, and Twitter.

LinkedIn

Linked in is the most popular social networking site revolving around business and professionals. Therapists are using linked them as a way to establish professional contacts at hospitals, clinics, educational institutions, and private practices around the world. These professional contacts are irreplaceable when an individual finds themselves unemployed and must begin once again searching through mounds of ads for therapy jobs.

Professional contacts are also beneficial when a therapist has a particularly difficult case and needs outside advice. For example, a clinic halfway around the world might be using a revolutionary new treatment to help back injury patients. It might be that the only way the local therapist learns about such breakthroughs is from his or her personal contacts on LinkedIn. The greatest advantage of the site is that it tends to be all business. That means you won't find much of the useless drivel that some other social networking sites have in abundance.

FaceBook

FaceBook is, hands down, the world's most popular social networking venue. Therapists who use FaceBook tend to do so for personal friendships as well as keeping in touch with coworkers. While this setting certainly is not as formal as LinkedIn, therapists who are also good friends find they can use FaceBook to discuss ideas among themselves. It's also a great place to pass on information that's been gleaned from that same clinic halfway around the world that you found out about through LinkedIn.

Twitter

Twitter has been described by some as a blog on steroids, being that the content is intended to be short and sweet, and directed at as many followers as is possible. Since posts can be no more than 140 characters long, Twitter is the place to share quick thoughts, observations, links to websites, etc. Those working in therapy jobs are finding Twitter is a quick and easy way to simply let those in their group know when important things are happening. The biggest downside to Twitter is that it can be distracting for those who are following too many people simultaneously.
