Soap Making Oils For You To Use

By:

While soap can be made from animal fat, most modern soap makers develop their creations from oils. More often than not, these oils are extracted from various plants and make an excellent base for homemade soap. Beyond being easier to use than animal fat, they can impart healthy characteristics to your soap that work to benefit your skin.

Soap making oils can usually fall into 3 categories: carrier oils, essential oils, or fragrance oils. Both carrier and essential oils are extracted from roots, plants, flower, etc., however, fragrance oils may also contains synthetic materials in it.

Below are some carrier oils often used in soap making:

Caster Oil: Extracted from the caster bean, this oil is known to sooth your skin while also helping to moisturize. It can be used in conjunction with other oils for soap making and help to make bars of soap harder.

Coconut Oil: You probably guessed where this oil comes from! Coconut oil helps to make frothy lather from your soap but it also works to make your soap bars hard.

Avocado Oil: Full of vitamins A, D, and E, this oil is great for healing and moisturizing your skin.

Palm Oil: You will find that palm oil is one of the ingredients that is often used in expensive bars of soap. In addition to hardening the soap, palm oil also acts as a moisturizer.

Olive Oil: The popular oil is found in hundreds of soap making recipes. Olive oil will work to help your skin retain its natural moisture while softening your skin at the same time.

There are hundreds of soap making oils on the market today ensuring that you will have plenty of variety in this craft.

One thing to note - everyone's skin is different. An oil that may soothe one person's skin may irritate that of another person. Also, allergens do survive the soap making process so be sure to let people know what is in your soap before they use it. Finally, discuss the properties of the oil you plan to purchase with your supplier before you buy.
