So You Want To Become A Real Estate Agent: Find All The Information First

If you would like to become a real estate agent, you need to know a few things about this career. You need to decide who to work for, and whether your work will be full time or part time.

Some broker agencies will accept your part time status, and others will not. The other agencies want to see a full time commitment, wherein you put in the hours and pound the pavement to get listings. Agencies that have enough full time agents may accept several agents to work part time in their spare time.

If you have heard of the super agents that live in lavish homes and make fantastic commissions, you should be aware that this type of agent makes up about two percent of all agents everywhere. The other ninety-eight percent struggle and perhaps never make a decent commission at all. Or you may have one great year. These are the stories you hear of.

In today's market, a house that used to be valued at a certain amount is now at less than half of that price. The commission that you might have made on it is less than half, as well. And sellers are negotiating commissions more and more these days, because they cannot afford to lose any more money on their homes.

After you become a real estate agent, you should decide whether to be a listing agent or a selling agent, or maybe both. If you become a listing agent, you will more or less collect listings in the hopes that one of the other hundreds of real estate agents in the area sells it. When they do, you get a part of the commission almost without doing anything else. Brokers love this, because they will cash in on the deals, as well.

If you decide to become a selling agent, you will be seeking out buyers for the listings. This goes for your listings, or anyone's listings. The problem with this is that buyers are fickle, and they will seek out other real estate agents to work with, even after you have taken them around for hours to see houses.

When you become a real estate agent, the multiple listing service is the list you will use to match up your buyers with your sellers. The same list is available to every single real estate agent in the area. It would be wise of you to try to make your buyers understand this.

Real estate is not for everyone. There are so many agents out there that the competition can get fierce at times. This is because it is relatively easy to get real estate licensing. To become a real estate agent, you just take the course for about six weeks, and then your state exam, you get a real estate license, and the rest is up to you. You will need about two thousand dollars to get started with a broker agency, and then you should be prepared to not have a decent paycheck for anywhere from six months to six years, depending on the market, your skills, and luck. Before you become a real estate agent, you should be able to sustain a lifestyle without a paycheck for a while. If you can do this, a real estate might be the right path for you.
