So You Think You Can Dance

By:

The most popular dance show in the recent times, So You Think You Can Dance, is slated to begin its ninth season in the summer of 2012. The show, originally telecasted on Mondays, is available on many popular satellite or cable services like Verizon FiOS TV. One can also use Video On Demand to watch it as many times as you want. I love watching this show because it contains talented and unique dancers who come from across the U.S. and the world to take part in this already famous dance program. Refreshingly so, the dancers put up a nice show every week with a variety of dance styles. Youngsters who are planning to make it big on the small screen, here is some information about the program.

If you have your own style of dancing, starting from street styles of hip-hop to popping the best of the ballroom dances like salsa, jive, folk, etc, get ready to show what you got. One of the best things about the show is you get to meet great dancers who come from different parts of the country and the world. The competition is tough, with dancers practicing for years and months together to partake in this run for the title, Americas favorite dancer.
The preliminary screening begins with the dancers trying to impress the judges with their moves. The first round is a solo round and you need to dance in your own style. The judge panel selects the dancers that are good enough to go to the next round, where they would be given a routine. The dance is choreographed and this is when it gets really big, where the selected dancers are given an invitation to perform at Las Vegas.

Performing at the Entertainment Capital of The World is not a walk in the park and for most of the dancers its a dream-come-true. Coming to Las Vegas, the dancers take a tour of the city filled with a lot of casinos, cocktail parties happening all-night long, celebrity parties and the like. If you had not been to this wonderful desert city, So You Think You Can Dance provides you with an excellent once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not only visit the city, but also perform in front of an entertainment-hungry audience.

Once you get an invitation to Las Vegas, you would be going through rigorous dance training from some of the topmost choreographers of the country. Here again the dancers perform their own unique style at the beginning. You need to keep in mind that only the top twenty will move forward to the studio shows. The competition gets very tough as the dancers are so talented and it marks the beginning of some great performances and gives the country and the judges a heads-up as to what they can expect in forthcoming days.

If youre talented enough, you get selected to the top 20 and this is where the competition really begins. The dancers are put through a training phase where they learn challenging routines. Every week dancers are paired up with one male and a female where they perform together to impress the panel and the viewers at home. The styles of dance you need to perfect are literally drawn out of hat. The viewers at home get a chance to vote for their favorite dancers. As the show progresses, dancers get eliminated based on the number of votes from the public and the judges opinions.

Once they are put through the elimination by the panel, they are given two chances; they are matched with their partner at first and the weaker pair gets a solo round each to perform. Every week one male and one female get eliminated by the panel. In the end, only one will be awarded the winners title and an attractive cash reward. Great dancers, popular choreographers, a beautiful host and a merciless panel of judges, all put together add a lot of glamour and color making it irresistible to anyone who loves dancing
