Snowboarding Tricks - How To Do A Nosepress

By:

The nosepress is a great tool to help you build up to bigger and better grinds. The nosepress is universal and can be used on boxes, rails or flat ground. Take on this trick after you have mastered the boardslide and the 50-50 grind. A nosepress is a simple grind or slide technique that you can easily practice and master in the park. Basically you will be moving forward, and shifting your weight to the front of your board, naturally bending the board and lifting the tail off of the ground while you continue to move forward. Those of you who have mastered the manual will realize that this is the opposite, instead of leaning back and lifting the nose off of the ground, you will lean forward and lift the tail off of the ground.

The nosepress is very simple, but we can break down the trick into 4 easy steps: the approach, the entry, the grind and the exit. You will want to remember to stay relaxed throughout the entire grind. If you hesitate or try to bail you will cause more trouble for yourself. As you begin your approach, you will want to line up to hit the rail (or box) head on. Keep a steady speed and keep the end of the rail as your goal. You should not be turning at all as you reach the base of the kicker and you she be heading straight for the rail. As you get to the lip of the kicker, pop an ollie and keep your shoulders in line with your board. As you pop off of the lip, shift your weight slightly forward. You should come down on the rail with your shoulders in line and your weight on your front foot and the nose of the board. This will cause the board to bend and position you into a nosepress. As you move through the grind stay relaxed with your weight forward, and move your shoulders for balance. Keep the grind smooth and dont jerk around while you find your exit. As the end of the rail approaches, pop your back foot up and pull up your knees to do a nollie. Keep your knees bent in the air and stomp your landing down on flat ground.

And thats it. A simple yet smooth and stylish nosepress to add to your arsenal of snowboarding tricks. You will need some practice to find the points of balance on the rail landing and the grind, but after a few tries you should have this trick down easily.
